A·BOD·E comprises a series of sculptures made by repeatedly building up and sanding down thin layers of papier-mâché, plaster, and paint. Their shapes are inspired by an assortment of things I encounter on a daily basis, such as plant life, household objects, and my own body. While relatively simple, each piece requires patience, because it takes a lot of layering and sanding to get its surface so smooth.

This smoothness has an elegance that contrasts with the sculpture’s irregular shape and sometimes humorous title. With sufficient time and repetition, a nostalgic and familiar medium can mutate into something enigmatic and foreign; the finished pieces are reminiscent of well-worn fossils or bizarre artifacts from an ancient civilization.
